CONCRETE FLOORING
If you have a concrete subfloor, we can do it. Some finishing options may not be available depending on the condition of the slab and how it was constructed, but we have a way of using every existing concrete floor one way or another.
Largely, it depends on the size and scope of the project. A commercial project that is less than 2,000 square feet typically takes two or three days from start to finish. If you want multiple coats for a higher gloss finish, dry times and recoating may take longer.
Yes! While broken concrete is akin to a broken pane of glass, it can nonetheless be ground, polished, overlaid, or resurfaced, transforming it into a beautiful concrete floor. The cracks are simply filled in like grout lines on a tile floor.
Concrete floors are widely used in retail, commercial, medical, school, and government buildings. They are no more slippery and cold than tile, stone or VCT (vinyl click tile) floors. Pool decks are almost always concrete, and can actually have better non-slip properties than most other surfaces. An added benefit of sealed concrete floors is that they take advantage of passive solar properties in winter, which can result in energy savings and warm floors on cold but sunny days!
The number one reason for switching to concrete is durability—it’s the only type of flooring that will take massive abuse without needing replacement. Our floors have endured flooding from roof cave-ins, sewage backups, and actual floods without needing anything more than a typical turnover clean and wax to look brand new again. Not even pet owners threaten your concrete floor’s integrity—pet urine won’t damage the flooring. We have installed over 1,000 concrete floors in apartment units all over the United States and each appreciate the durability only concrete flooring can offer.
Changing the color of a stained floor is relatively easy and should cost less than half the original price of the floor, depending on the process used. Ground and stained floors—our most popular treatment—is changed by simply cleaning the surface and adding a new color over the top of the old finish. For a more thorough process, the existing surface stain can be ground and re-stained from scratch. Since most of the heavy work is already done, re-grinding and staining are much quicker and easier the second time around.
All our favorite products are VOC free and water-based, making them as safe as possible to use in a living space. And, by using existing materials—your concrete floor hiding underneath—you won’t be purchasing new flooring materials (which may not be environmentally safe).
Grinding and sealing your existing concrete floor is very economical compared to other flooring solutions. It typically costs less than tile, stone, or hardwood, and is comparable to vinyl plank [link] and wood laminate. While it does cost more than economically-priced carpet, concrete doesn’t have to be replaced every few years like carpet, so your long-term savings are substantial.
Indefinitely with limited maintenance—what other types of flooring that can say that? Even tile and stone floors eventually break up and need replacing, but a concrete slab will be there as long as the building structure is there. It can be maintained and look beautiful indefinitely.
Like any flooring surface, a concrete floor will show general wear and tear over time from frequent use. To keep your floor looking great, you only need to maintain the top surface, or wear surface. For sealed concrete flooring, the wear surface is the sealant. After cleaning the surface to remove sand and other debris, follow up with another application of protective floor finish. The products we recommend are very common and are easy to apply with a simple damp mop.
Any neutral cleaner is recommended, and you can use tougher cleaners when necessary.
